Conway Bowman- San Diego Director
An accomplished all-around adventurer, fisherman, and waterman, Conway Bowman’s name is synonymous with “extreme” fly fishing. Based in Encinitas, California, Conway guides for bluewater species on the fly, most notably the fast and ferocious mako shark.
As the host of three highly rated and award-winning television series—The Ford Outfitters, Fly Fishing the World on the Sportsman Channel, and Fifty Places to Fly-Fish Before You Die on the World Fishing Network—Conway has traveled from the remote beaches of Baja California to the humid jungles of Thailand in search of wild fishing adventures.
His travels have led him to pursue a wide variety of species, including Atlantic salmon, wild trout, redfish, bonefish, and tarpon. He currently holds the IGFA World Record for redfish at 41.65 pounds, caught on the fly. Conway is also the author of The Orvis Guide to Beginning Saltwater Fly Fishing.
When he’s not searching for his next adventure, Conway enjoys surfing, skin diving, and fishing with his wife, Michelle, and their sons, Max and Jackson, in their home waters of Encinitas. He also manages the City of San Diego’s largest natural resource, the San Pasqual wetlands.
Capt. Greg Stutzer
Born in Hawaii and raised in San Diego, Greg has spent his life around the ocean. His father introduced him to fishing at a young age, and a friendship with Conway Bowman eventually led him to fly fishing and a passion for pursuing pelagic species.
Greg’s diverse career has included working as a fishing guide, marine biologist, lifeguard, firefighter, and paramedic. He earned degrees in fish biology from Humboldt State University and CSU San Marcos and spent 14 years as a marine biologist studying fish movements throughout California using electronic tagging.
After serving as a lifeguard and firefighter in Hawaii and Virginia, Greg’s life eventually came full circle. Today, he works full-time as a captain and guide, sharing his knowledge of the ocean while pursuing mako sharks and other pelagic species on the fly. His passion for fishing, conservation, and mentoring others makes him a natural fit for Cast Hope.
Dustin Sergent
Dustin has been fishing for as long as he can remember. He was raised in Southern California and spent his youth chasing everything from bass to surf perch. He spent summers in Alaska trying and learning to catch salmon from the salty shorelines, later in his teens he picked up fly fishing and never looked back. Now he spends his time chasing roosterfish in Baja, tarpon in Florida, Great Lakes steelhead in Pennsylvania and everything in between. He’s got a passion for largemouth bass and an obsession over Pacific bluefin tuna. He guided for bass, stripers, and carp for years now. Dustin is married to a elementary school teacher, and together they have a young son, River, who is their pride and joy.
